What Now?
I came home from work today
Like every other day before
Looking forward with excited anticipation
To my daily reunion
With everything I hold dear
My sweetheart, my home, my sanctuary
Making me wish every day
I could stay at home
Instead of leaving behind
All that I love
For nine or ten long hours of
Loneliness surrounded by strangers
But today nobody ran to hug me
I wasn’t greeted with a smile or kind word
Nobody even seemed to notice I was home
My sanctuary turned dark and lifeless
Is this what I worked so hard for
Is this how it all begins to end?
